How to get elected President on the Internet

Posted by Dave Winer, 4/27/06 at 11:20:10 PM.

I got home at 8PM.

I'd love to watch some TV news. Problem is, all that's on is stuff about the Duke University Lacrosse team.

A picture named hamster.jpgYou might wonder if we're really at war, if oil pricing is being debated in DC, if the Fed decided not to raise interest rates, or if Joe Klein has a new book on American politics. Are we still thinking about invading Iran? Can't tell from listening to Tucker Carlson or Anderson Cooper (who makes up those names, anyway).

This is one of the things I didn't say to Edwards today but should have. If I were working for a Presidential candidate for 2008, one of the things I'd do right now is raise money for a good political news network for the Internet. One that represents all points of view and takes no advertising, makes no profit.

Get donations from the usual places. Use your star power to attract money to upgrade the flow of political information. This is the kind of use of the Internet that pays off. It's an application of "the more you send them away the more they come back."
